PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh's police union says it is endorsing underdog Republican mayoral candidate Mark DeSantis over incumbent Democrat Luke Ravenstahl.

Fraternal Order of Police officials say they don't remember if the union has ever endorsed a Republican for mayor.

The union's Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1 represents 2,000 current and retired city police officers.

The union says it endorsed DeSantis Friday because he favors scrapping a requirement that police officers live in the city, among other issues.

Ravenstahl says he's not going to cave into union demands just to win an endorsement and the Nov. 6 election.
