GIBSONIA — A Deer Lakes High School student is charged as an adult for allegedly using a knife when students from rival schools fought in a cemetery.

Hampton Township police on Thursday say they charged 17-year-old Anthony Bishop with attempted homicide, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault for the fight last month.

Police say Bishop was one of two dozen students from Deer Lakes and Hampton high schools involved in the dispute that began over drug paraphernalia and a cell phone.

Police are still investigating and others may be charged.

MONACA — Two Beaver County school districts have agreed to merge to deal with declining enrollment.The Center Area and Monaca school boards agreed Thursday to merge, which could be the state's first voluntary merger if approved by the state.The merger could be complete for fall 2009 classes.

HOMESTEAD — The $36 million renovation of the Homestead Grays Bridge just east of Pittsburgh is finished.The bridge is now completely open for the first time since the two-year project started.The bridge crosses the Monongahela River between the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Squirrel Hill and Homestead. The bridge is also the primary access to The Waterfront.
