Rock nets soccer triumphs

Alison Hindley recorded a hat trick as the 22nd-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team blanked Charleston (W.V.) 6-0 on Saturday.

Danielle Cooper, Courtney Hoover and Mallory Neubert also scored for SRU (11-3-2).

Jeremy Deighton and Greg Hutton each scored a goal as The Rock earned a 2-0 shutout over visiting Kutztown.Steve Perri added two assists and Nick Christy had one for SRU (8-5-2, 7-3-2). Greg Blum, Chris Cook and Brett Lelko combined to earn the win in net.

The Rock women's team went 4-0 over the weekend, dispatching Tiffin 3-2 before downing Taylor-Fort Wayne, Union (Ky.) and West Liberty State by identical 3-0 scores.Anastasia Urbanik had 49 kills in the four matches as well as 40 digs, 10 blocks and five service aces. Jen Blasko had 42 kills, eight saves and 68 digs and Louise Schultz had 40 kills, 62 assists, 15 blocks, 23 digs.

Brian Mercer scored two touchdowns and the defense allowed 204 total yards as Grove City College captured the Mercer County Cup with a 14-13 win at Thiel College Saturday.Ryan Rylands deflected an extra-point attempt with 3:05 remaining to account for the difference in the game for the Wolverines (3-4).
