John Edgar "skip" hicks, 90, of Karns city died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday at ACMH Hospital, Kittanning, after a brief illness.

Born in Perry Township, Armstrong County, Dec. 14, 1916, he was a son of John Clifford and Iva Velma Crawford Hicks.

He was a 58-year member of the Trinity Church in Bradys Bend.

During World War II, he served with the Army's 136th Ordinance Maintenance Battalion in the United States, France, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was a member of the American Legion Kaylor Post 488 of Bradys Bend.

Mr. Hicks retired from the Witco Corp. in Petrolia in 1981 after 36 years in the neutralizer department.

He married Ethel Goldie Ealey on Aug. 20, 1949. She died Feb. 18, 1976.

He then married Lucille "Lucy" Kamerer in Johnsonburg, Oct. 14, 1978. She survives along with two daughters, Sally J. Hicks of Butler and Sandra Cousins and her husband, Virgil, of Karns City; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robert E. Dunlap and Thomas Hicks; and three brothers, Herbert, Paul and William Hicks.

<B>HICKS </B>— Friends of John Edgar "skip" hicks, who died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Richard d. Hillis funeral home</B>, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with his church pastor, the Rev. Peter Sapp, officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the American Legion Kaylor Post 488.
