Pittsburgh police investigate body found severed

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police say a woman whose body was cut in half and placed in separate bags was a black woman in her early 40s. Authorities used a fingerprint to identify the woman, but her name wasn't immediately released.

Police say the body was severed at the waist, with the lower and upper body wrapped in separate plastic garbage bags.

A witness saw the bags Monday but apparently didn't think much of it because the area is known for illegal dumping. Detectives suspect the body had been there for a couple of days.

A woman walking her dog Tuesday notified a PennDOT worker.
