Teen now in county custody
PITTSBURGH — A 13-year-old girl charged with killing her allegedly abusive father has been placed in the custody of Allegheny County child services.
Her attorney, Patrick Nightingale, contends that his client shot Matthew Booth Sr. in the face on July 30 to end years of physical and sexual abuse. The Associated Press does not identify possible victims of sexual abuse.
The girl had been living with her 34-year-old father in a squalid home in Elizabeth Township that authorities called uninhabitable because of flea infestation, animal feces, broken plumbing and other problems.
Administrative Judge Kim Berkeley said after Wednesday's hearing, which was closed to reporters, that the girl was placed in the custody of the county's Office of Children, Youth and Families and would receive treatment through the agency.
