Sliders build 3-game streak

The Slippery Rock Sliders spent the weekend building their biggest winning streak of the season.

Three games.

The Sliders swept a doubleheader from River City Saturday, winning the first game 4-0 and the second game 3-2.

The winning streak matches the Sliders' longest run of success this summer.

Nick Tracy won his third game in his last four starts by pitching six shutout innings. He gave up just four hits, struck out four and walked two in the outing.

Tracy, who began the season 0-11 with an ERA over eight, improved to 3-11 and dropped his ERAto 5.76.

Catcher Ryley Westerman went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Sliders (24-60).

In the second game, Dan Schwartz flirted with trouble all game, but picked up the win, giving up two runs on two hits while walking seven and striking out four in six innings.

Chris Rubio pitched a perfect seventh, striking out two, for the save.

The Sliders are 11-12 this month, including a 5-0 mark on Saturdays.

On Sunday, John Bachman turned in another solid pitching performance for Slippery Rock in an 8-3 win over Florence.

Casey Bowling went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the win.

Slippery Rock will battle Florence tonight at 7:05 p.m. The team returns to Critchfield Park after the game for its final two home games of the season. The Sliders host Chillicothe for 7:05 p.m. starts Tuesday and Wednesday.
