TORONTO — The Pittsburgh Penguins' top draft pick, Angelo Esposito, will not play in a series of junior hockey exhibition games because of a groin injury.
Esposito, 18, was expected to be one of the offensive leaders for the Canadian Super Series team.
Esposito, the 20th overall pick in the June NHL Draft, had not planned to attend the Penguins rookie camp because it conflicts with the Super Series — eight games between under-20 all-star teams from Canada and Russia.
The Penguins open rookie camp Sept. 5 and training camp Sept. 13. The first of six preseason games is Sept. 17 in Montreal.
