Altoona Sheetz may resume sale of six-packs

ALTOONA — The state Supreme Court has opened the door for Sheetz to resume selling beer at an Altoona convenience store and announced that the justices will review a lower-court order that effectively ended takeout sales of six-packs there.

The high court's decision Tuesday to accept the case puts the fate of Pennsylvania's Byzantine beer sales rules in question.

A Sheetz spokesman said Wednesday that the suds will begin to flow again once the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has reviewed the Supreme Court order and issues a license.

Commonwealth Court ruled earlier this year that Sheetz's retail license requires it to allow beer to be consumed on the premises, which Sheetz did not permit, if it engages in takeout sales.
