River City nips Sliders

O'FALLON, Mo. — The River City Rascals scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to eke out a 3-2 victory over the Slippery Rock Sliders in Frontier League action Friday.

Jesse Acosta had a single and RBI and Bernie Dennis two singles, an RBI and a run scored for Slippery Rock.

Trey Hendricks went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Jared Bunn added a triple, single and two RBI for the Rascals.

Steve Brook improved to 10-5 with the win while Chris Rubio dropped to 2-2. Mike Benacka earned his 18th save.

On Thursday, The Sliders defeated the Gateway Grizzles, 12-7, to salvage the final game of that series.

Zac Cline (8-5) struck out six in five innings of work and got the victory. Slippery Rock High School and University graduate Jason Curry collected a home run, two doubles and five RBIto lead a 12-hit attack.

Bryan Vickers also homered for the Sliders while Casey Bowling and Cy Donald added two hits each.

The Sliders will continue their three-game set withthe Rascals Saturday and Sunday at 7:05 p.m.

Slippery Rock has lost four of its last five games and enters the weekend with a 22-56 record.
