HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania hunters and trappers are reminded about the upcoming deadlines for submitting an application for one of the 1,010 bobcat permits to be awarded during a public drawing at the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Harrisburg headquarters.
Applications must be postmarked no later than Aug. 15. Those postmarked or delivered after Aug. 15 will be rejected.
Online applications will be accepted at www.pgc.state.pa.us through Sept. 4.
Those who received a bobcat permit last year are not eligible for this year's drawing.
Applicants must use the form found on page 89 of the 2007-08 Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting & Trapping Regulations or at www.pgc.state.pa.us. There is a $5 non-refundable application fee. Applications by mail must be sent to: Bobcat Permit Application, Pennsylvania Game Commission, 2001 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17110-9797.
The 1,010 permits will be selected during a computerized drawing, which will be open to the public, at the agency's headquarters Sept. 14. The bobcat hunting season will take place Oct. 20 through Feb. 16. The bobcat trapping season will be held from Oct. 21 through Feb. 17.
OIL CITY — The family-friendly fishing derby for flathead catfish, channel catfish and carp has been revived. Anglers of all ages will fish continuously from 7 p.m. Aug. 17 through 7 a.m. Aug. 19 along the Allegheny River or its tributaries from the bridge in Tionesta to the bridge in Emlenton.The entry fee for anglers under 17 is $5, for those over 17 the fee is $15.Anglers are expected to keep the fish they land alive so they can be taken to a weighing station before being returned to the water.Winners will be determined by length, and cash prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Oil City Marina.For information, call Toni Kresinski at (800) 483-6264, Ext. 110.
