Sliders don't fall easily to Windy City
CRESTWOOD, Ill. — After outscoring the Slippery Rock Sliders 25-4 in the first two games of the series, the Wind City ThunderBolts were looking for a sweep Thursday.
They got it with a 7-6 victory, but it didn't come easily.
Windy City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Sliders (15-43) held a 3-1 advantage after 2Z\x innings.
That lead was negated by two Windy City runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-all score.
The ThunderBolts tallied three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 6-3, but the Sliders tied it with a three-spot in their half of the fourth.
The score remained tied until Windy City plated a run in the eighth off of Slippery Rock's losing pitcher, Jason Cline (0-1), who gave up one run on one hit, walked one and struck out two in 1Z\c innings.
Jon Dandridge sparked the Sliders with a home run, while Bernie Dennis had an RBI double. Brian Vickers had two singles and two RBI
Casey Bowling, Anthony Albano and Jason Curry each chipped in a single and a run scored.
Starting pitcher Judson Smith worked 6Z\c innings for the Sliders, surrendering seven hits, six runs (three earned), five walks and striking out three.
The Sliders head to Rockford (Ill.) tonight for a three-game series before returning home to face Windy City Monday through Wednesday,
