14-foot python carcass is found
GLASSPORT — It wasn't your garden variety snake.
A couple walking with their sons along the banks of the Monongahela River on Thursday stumbled upon the carcass of a 14-foot python — a reptile more common in Southeast Asia than southwestern Pennsylvania.
The snake's body was laying inches from the edge of the river near Pittsburgh, and a wildlife control officer said it may have washed ashore after being hit in the water by a passing motor boat.
It was unclear where the snake came from, but experts say people often buy such snakes before discovering they cannot afford to feed them.
A wildlife control officer removed the carcass, which was to be disposed of at a local dump.
