Sliders put up battles, but fall twice

Joe Holland's RBI single in the eighth inning Tuesday broke a 2-all tie to key the Florence (Ky.) Freedom's 4-2 win over the Sliders at Jack Critchfield Park.

Despite allowing 11 hits over six innings, Florence's Domingo Acosto allowed just two runs.

Cody Castle threw 1X\c innings of relief to pick up the win and Jason Bennion recorded the final four outs for his first save.

Slippery Rock's Bryan Vickers had an RBI double and RBI triple that accounted for the Sliders' two runs.

Bernie Dennis and Casey Bowling also had two hits each for the Sliders, who finished with 12 hits.

On Wednesday, the Sliders scored one run in the top of the 12th inning, but the host Kalamazoo (Mich.) Kings scored twice to take an 8-7 victory.

The teams play again at 8:05 tonight. The Sliders (10-30) have lost 18 of their last 20 games.
