Sliders' 11-game losing skid ends

Bernie Dennis belted a three-run homer in the third inning to lead the Slippery Rock Sliders to a 5-4 victory over the host Chillicothe (Oh.) Paints in Frontier League action Tuesday.

The win snapped an 11-game losing streak for the Sliders (9-23).

The Sliders took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second thanks to an RBI double by Jon Dandridge and fielder's choice RBI grounder by Cy Donald.

The Paints (14-19) knotted the game in the home half of the second as Dan Cummins had an RBI triple and a Josh Miller run-scoring single.

Slippery Rock used the homer by Dennis to open up a three-run cushion before Chillicothe plated a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning, which closed out the scoring.

Chris Rubio picked up the win, tossing three scoreless innings in relief of starter Rhett Parker.

Rubio struck out three and walked none while allowing two runs on three hits. Greg Lasinski tossed 1Z\c innings for his seventh save of the season.

Casey Bowling added two hits for the Sliders while Paul Rutgers and Travis Storrer each added two hits apiece for the Paints.

The Sliders return to action today for a 7:05 p.m. start at Chillicothe to wrap up the two-game series.
