Mary E. Hartzell Gifford, 97, of the Saxony Health Center in Saxonburg, formerly of Evans City, died Wednesday afternoon at the health center.

Born July 25, 1909, in Forward Township, she was the daughter of O. Eli and Margaret McKnight Hartzell.

Mrs. Gifford was a member of the World Wide Church of God. She had been a member of the Fordham Grange.

Surviving are a son, Edward A. Gifford of Evans City; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Leonberg of Mars; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Gifford, who died June 30, 1992; two brothers, and four sisters.
