Sliders drop pair to S. Illinois

Tim Dorn's two-run single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Southern Illinois a 4-3 win over the Slippery Rock Sliders in Frontier League baseball action on Sunday.

Slippery Rock (8-16) held a 2-0 lead from the top of the fourth inning to the bottom of the ninth when the Miners (12-13) scored a pair of runs to tie the game.

Slippery Rock answered with a run in the top of the 10th frame, only to give up two in the bottom of the inning.

Greg Lasinski took the loss for Slippery Rock.

<b>Southern Illinois 16, Slippery Rock 7</b>Slippery Rock starter Derek Griffith was tagged for eight runs (seven earned) in 3 1/3 innings pitched as the Sliders dropped a 16-7 decision to the Southern Illinois Miners.Casey Bowling went 3-for-5 with three RBI in the defeat, improving his team-leading batting average to .373. Brian Dennis added three hits for the Sliders while Cy Donald and Kory Lonergan delivered two hits each.Starting pitcher Derek Griffith was roughed up for seven earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched. He allowed four hits and walked four.The Sliders used five pitchers in Saturday's defeat.Slippery Rock concludes its series in Southern Illinois tonight before returning to Critchfield Park for a three-game series against Evansville, beginning Tuesday night.Sliders manager Greg Jelks and general manager Steve Tahsler guided Evansville to the Frontier League champuionship last season.
