You were there long ago, a loving father you are,

to give me the name of each flower and star.

You were there to cradle my head to your chest,

to whisper soft comfort and quiet my rest.

You were there as I grew, as life opened new doors,

believing in me as my dreams became yours.

You were there for each valley as well as each peak,

singing my song if my own voice grew weak.

You were there even when I was quite unaware

of your unmentioned worry or soft, tender prayer.

You were there in my joy - the first by my side

with arms open wide and eyes misty with pride.

You were there through the hours, the days and the years...

My Dad and friend in both laughter and tears.

Your were there - and I know that you always will be - in a space filled with love, at the center of me.
