Ryan O'Connor of Evans City will participate in the Pitch, Hit & Run team competition qualifier at PNC Park before Sunday's Pirates game.
O'Connor, 14, qualified for the team competition by winning the section event hosted by the Erie SeaWolves on May 20. He now has an opportunity to qualify for the national competition, which will be held at the All-Star Game in San Francisco.
O'Connor will be a guest of the Pirates Sunday and will receive special recognition before the game with the Chicago White Sox.
Brett Rinker, 12, of Slippery Rock shot a 74-76 to finish seventh in the 36-hole Plantations Junior Golf Tour National Championships at TPC of Virginia Beach Memorial Day weekend.The tournament featured the top junior golfers in the country.Rinker also won the 12-14 division at the opening event of the 2007 North East Junior Golf Tour.Rinker shot an 80 at Iron Masters Country Club in Roaring Springs, Pa., to win the event.His score was the lowest of any golfer in any division. The age groups at the event spanned from 8 to 17.
Ryan Prokay of Grove City tied for fourth place in the boys 14-15 age division at the 31st annual West Penn Golf Association Championship Tuesday at Rolling Hills Country Club in McMurray.Prokay fired a 38-39-77, just one shot behind Ian Bangor of Moon Township.
Jeff Tracy of Slippery Rock shot a two-round total of 169 (88-81) and finished 26th at the 87th West Penn Junior Championship Monday at New Castle Country Club.Tracy was 20 strokes off the pace set by the winner of the event, Brandon Pompeani of Aliquippa (75-74-149).
The Slippery Rock University will have two of its football games appear live as part of the "APSCUF College Football game of the Week featuring the PSAC" series on the SPORTSfever Television Network, which includes Pittsburgh-based WBGN.The Rock's home game against Millersville will be shown at 3:05 p.m. Sept. 8. The second televised game will be a 5:15 p.m. contest Thursday, Nov. 1 at Lock Haven, the only non-Saturday game on the schedule.
