Sliders get only 2 hits in 3-1 loss
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Washington used three pitchers to hold the Slippery Rock Sliders to one run on two hits as the Wild Things picked up a 3-1 Frontier League victory Wednesday night at Consol Energy Park.
Slippery Rock's two hits were a solo home run from Casey Bowling in the second inning and a single from Phil Butch in the first.
Washington's Pat Sadler, J.J. Hollenbeck and Gus Hlebovy combined for 10 strikeouts and four walks, with Sadler pitching the first six innings for the win.
The Sliders' Derek Griffith shouldered the loss after working six innings, striking out three and walking six. He surrendered three runs on three hits.
The Wild Things (10-3), who collected only three hits in the game, scored two runs in the first and one more in the second before turning the game over to their pitching.
Slippery Rock (5-8) received a scoreless inning of relief from Kory Bucklew (7) and Pete Parise (8).
