Sliders slip up in Wash.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Jarod Rine went 4-for-5, including a home run, to help power the Washington Wild Things to a 6-2 victory over the Slippery Rock Sliders Tuesday at ConsolEnergy Park.

After trailing 1-0, the Sliders (5-7) plated two runs in the second inning, thanks to an RBI single by Bernie Dennis that scored Jason Curry and a sacrifice fly by Jon Hickey that brought home Jason Von Behren.

The Wild Things (9-3), who banged out 13 hits, knotted the game in the fifth inning on a passed ball before Rine's solo home run in the seventh inning gave Washington a lead it would not lose.

Justin Mattison earned the win after throwing three shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit and fanning five Slippery Rock batters.

The teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. today at ConsolEnergy Park as the Sliders will send Derek Griffith to the mound against Patrick Sadler.
