Basic consideration for others
Last Sunday I had a few incidents of inconsideration for others that irritated me. The first one happened when my daughter and I were riding our bike's on Meridian Road. We were going through the intersection with Cupps Road. We were not turning onto Cups Road and made no indication that we were. However, a minivan that was traveling in the same direction as us was turning into Cupps Road. It turned directly in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes to avoid running into it. What exactly, was that driver thinking?
Secondly, my family and I attended an afternoon showing of "Pirates of the Caribbean". Sitting directly behind us was a family (I assume) which contained a child of less than one year. This child squealed several times during the movie and especially at a critical time close to the end. I had not reacted to the situation until that moment. One adult did take the child out of the theater then. What were these people thinking? When my daughter was young I either found a babysitter or did not go to the movie. It is a basic consideration for others.
Lastly, while driving down a hill, a large white SUV backed out onto the road such that I had to apply my brakes to avoid hitting it. It appeared to me that the driver made no attempt to make sure the road was clear. However, I was not the more aggrieved party in this instance. There was a bicyclist riding up the hill whom the SUV backed out in front of. Again, where is the consideration for others?
Just because it is mentioned in previous letters, at our former residence, some neighbors let their dogs roam the neighborhood freely. I did not appreciate them using my yard as a bathroom nor did I appreciate the fact that I could not leave my dog in the yard for fear of him being hurt by these other, bigger dogs because my dog, although small, is ornery when it comes to other animals. As I recall, we may have shot one of these animals with a bb gun just to scare it out of our yard. The owners of these dogs show their inconsideration for others.
Now that rant is over, I do want to mention that I recently had a very good experience as well. I pulled into my driveway after visiting the grocery store and another vehicle pulled in behind me. It was a gentleman who followed me home to let me know that the back of my vehicle had come open on my drive and my groceries had spilled out of my car. I went back to the intersection and found my groceries piled on a corner. Not only did the gentleman go out of his way to let me know of my groceries falling out, someone else went to the trouble of picking my groceries out of the busy intersection and piled them on a corner to wait for my return. I am truly grateful for the thoughtful actions of these people.
