Simoons

Daniel Simoons, 86, of Middlesex Township died Sunday at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Richland Township.

Born July 2, 1920, in Philadelphia, he was the son of Frederick J. and Stephanie M. Ryckebuer Simoons.

A graduate of the Newark College of Engineering, he was a chemical engineer at Getty Oil in New York for more than 30 years and retired from the Whitco Chemical Co., formerly SW Grease & Oil.

He was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, where he was active with the Westminster Bible Class. He was a volunteer at St. Barnabas and at the Lighthouse Foundation.

He was an avid stamp collector and a member of the American and Pittsburgh Philatelic societies.

Surviving are his wife, Edythe "Helen" Ochsenhirt Miller Simoons, whom he married March 9, 1969; his children, Barbara F. Marino of New Jersey, Ellen E. Miller Hazzard of New York, Joan C. Colgan and Renee S. Van der. Wal, both of New Jersey, Laura Margaret Veranese of Venetia, Washington County, Jeanne E. Wittmer of California and D. Lee Miller of New York; and a sibling, Dr. Frederick J. Simoons of Washington state. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Alexander D. Miller.

<B>SIMOONS </B>— Friends of Daniel Simoons, who died Sunday, March 18, 2007, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown with the Rev. Paul Becker Jr. officiating.
