MILWAUKEE — J.J. Hardy snapped out of an early slump, going 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and four RBI to help the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 Thursday.

Hardy entered batting .232, but broke an 0-for-11 streak with a two-run homer in the first inning.

Milwaukee went on to score four runs off Zach Duke (1-2), who gave up seven runs and 11 hits in four innings.

The Pirates' Xavier Nady hit a two-run homer in the sixth, then singled in a run off reliever Derrick Turnbow in the eighth.

Seneca Valley hockey players Matt Jarrett and Nick Jones were selected to participate for Team Pittsburgh in a Chicago showcase tournament that runs through Sunday.

NEW YORK — The NBA broke its attendance record for the third straight year, drawing more than 21.8 million fans during the 2006-07 season.The league also surpassed its previous best by averaging 17,757 fans. The previous best marks were set last season, when the average of 17,558 fans led to a total of just under 21.6 million.The top three teams in average attendance are all from the Central Division: Chicago (22,253); Detroit (22,076), and Cleveland (20,436).
