Butler Cubs boxer Joel Rehm will fight for the Western Pennsylvania Golden Gloves championship Friday in the Great Hall at Heinz Field.

Rehm will oppose Giavonni Bonner of Altoona in the 152-pound class. Fights begin at 7:30 p.m.

STATE COLLEGE — A Penn State University junior is urging football fans to wear the maroon and orange colors of Virginia Tech to the Blue and White scrimmage Saturday at Beaver Stadium."I hope it gives them support to keep going on," George Thompson said Tuesday. "Hopefully, even if it makes them smile for a little bit — it'll be worth it."Thompson's idea drew more than 1,700 supporters within hours Tuesday on the Facebook social-networking Web site.Another Penn State student, senior William Solomon, was using Facebook to try to assemble 800 people to create a human "VT" symbol in the scrimmage crowd on Saturday

PITTSBURGH — Defensive end Nick Eason, an unrestricted free agent who played for the Cleveland Browns the past two seasons, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday.Eason, a fourth-round draft pick by the Browns from Clemson in 2003, was waived by Cleveland in 2004. He spent part of the 2005 season on the Denver Broncos' practice squad before rejoining the Browns late that season.The Steelers traditionally sign players such as Eason to an NFL minimum-salary contract — $510,000 for a player with Eason's experience. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Eason would replace Rodney Bailey, who signed last week with the Arizona Cardinals.Eason had 23 tackles last season. In 30 career NFL games, he has 44 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. Bailey had six tackles in 12 games as a backup for Pittsburgh last season.

NEW YORK — The New York Yankees honored Jackie Robinson Tuesday by dedicating a memorial in Monument Park to the former Brooklyn Dodgers star.The text of the plaque reads: "In becoming the first Major League player to break the color barrier, Jackie will forever be an inspiration with his grace, dignity and perseverance. His story and the stories of those who never had the same opportunity must never be forgotten."
