KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City guard Will Shields is retiring after 14 NFL seasons, during which he made a record 12 Pro Bowl appearances and anchored one of the top offensive lines in the league.Shields, who made a team-record 224 starts, made his 12th Pro Bowl appearance last season to tie the record held by Minnesota guard Randall McDaniel.

WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State hired Gregg Marshall as its basketball coach Saturday, four weeks after he led Winthrop to a first-round victory over Notre Dame in the NCAA tournament.Athletic director Jim Schaus said the school had reached a tentative seven-year agreement with Marshall for $750,000 a year, plus performance incentives. Schaus told reporters Marshall was his first choice to fill the job.Marshall replaces Mark Turgeon, who left for Texas A&M.

REUNION, Fla. — Brittany Lincicome entered the final round of the Ginn Open believing that par would be a sensational score.Lincicome, who started four shots behind Lorena Ochoa and Laura Davies, survived a blustery day and a six-hour round to shoot an even-par 72 — enough to give the 21-year-old her second career LPGA Tour victory.She finished at 10 under, one shot better than Ochoa (77) — who was 6 over on her final six holes, a stunning collapse that cost her an opportunity to pass Annika Sorenstam for the top spot in world rankings.

HOUSTON — Unseeded Ivo Karlovic used his booming serve to stop qualifier Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina 6-4, 6-1 Sunday to win the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships and capture his first ATP tour title.The 6-foot-10 Croat closed out the win on his second match point with a 140-mph ace. He arched his back and clenched his fists before going over to shake hands with his coach.

WASHINGTON — Chicago beat Los Angeles on Saturday in a U.S. Olympic Committee vote to pick a candidate for the 2016 Summer Games.Chicago, which has never held an Olympics, now will try to persuade the International Olympic Committee that it deserves to be the host, joining a group of bidders expected to include Madrid, Prague, Rome, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.
