Winners chosen in final round of Kean Idol
RICHLAND TWP — The winners of Kean Idol, the American Idol-inspired singing competition held each year at the Kean Theatre, were selected Friday in the competition's final round.
Madison Georgi, 14, of Hampton Township won the Audience Choice Vocal Award and the Greg Maggio Judges Choice Vocal Award. Georgi, who has competed in all four years of the competition, sang "Take My Hand," a song she composed as a fundraiser for autism research.
She won two trophies, 12 hours of studio recording time and two portrait sessions.
The top five winners were: First runner-up Lisa Castor, 38, of Charleroi; second runner-up Natalie Schaefer, 17, of Gibsonia; Vida Malcanas, 35, of Mount Washington; and Chelsea Carmella, 16, of Cranberry Township.
Judges for the championship included Johnny Angel, lead singer with Johnny Angel and The Halos.
Money raised from ticket sales, sponsorships, raffles and DVD and flower sales goes to the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund.
The event raised about $32,000.
