FCA Gems win national crowns
The FCAGems All-Star Cheerleading organization, based in Sarver, won numerous national championships at the Cheer Power Nationals held recently in Columbus, Ohio.
The CZ's, Pink Ice, Emeralds, Sapphires, Tanzanites and Citrines all won championships in their respective divisions.
Jennifer Watterson Walton and Beth Watterson Dittmer won the National Choreography Award for the Sapphires and Citrines.
This was the final competition of the year for eight of the FCAGems squads.
The Diamonds earned a bid to Worlds and will travel to Orlando, Fla., to compete in April.
CARACAS, Venezuela — Former major league pitcher Ugueth Urbina was sentenced to 14 years in prison Wednesday for the attempted murder of five workers on his family's ranch.Urbina, a former pitcher with the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies, also was found guilty of illegal deprivation of liberty and violating a prohibition against taking justice into his own hands during a dispute over a gun on Oct. 16, 2005, according to a statement from the attorney general's office.The 32-year-old free agent was accused of joining a group of men in attacking and injuring workers with machetes and pouring gasoline on them at his family's ranch, located about 25 miles south of Caracas.
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Argentine soccer star Diego Maradona was taken by ambulance to a health clinic Wednesday because of problems caused by excessive eating, drinking and cigar smoking, but his life is not in danger.Maradona, 47, was taken to the Guemes health clinic in the Argentine capital and was followed a few minutes later by his two daughters, Dalma and Giannina, footage broadcast by local television stations showed.Maradona's doctor, Alfredo Cahe, said that the former soccer player "wasn't in any danger" and had been taken to the private clinic "against his will, he didn't want to go."
