Pioneers romp to win

Seneca Valley graduate Andy Wilmoth tallied three doubles, two singles and seven RBI as the Butler County Community College baseball team crushed CCAC-Boyce, 28-4, in the Pioneers' home opener Tuesday.

Seneca Valley product Todd Purvis added two singles and three RBI, and Joe Ference homered.

Butler High graduate Jim McCaslin singled twice, doubled, tripled and drove in two runs while Brad Cottage singled twice and had four RBI.

Rob Cochran had three base hits and three RBI, and Josh Marchinoski was the winning pitcher after striking out eight in five innings of work.

The Pioneers will host Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday.

Slippery Rock University's Stacey Rhoades hit a home run in her first at-bat in both games of a doubleheader with Ursuline (Ohio) College as The Rock managed a sweep by scores of 6-0 and 2-1.Rhoades also was the winning pitcher in Game 2, giving up just two hits in a complete-game effort.
