The Butler Valley Dawgs Midget 18-and-under AA hockey team has advanced to the USAHockey National Championships in Fraser, Mich., next weekend.
The Dawgs won the Mid-American Hockey Association district championship for the second straight year by defeating the Louisville Stallions 8-0 in the title game. Other wins were 4-2 over the Toledo Cherokee, 3-2 in an shootout over the Fort Wayne Phantoms and 9-2 over the Pittsburgh Predators.
Lizz King of Knoch scored 16 points and was named MVP of the West squad during the 11th annual A-K Valley Cager Classic held Saturday at Highlands High School.Steph Clowes of Freeport won the girls 3-point shooting contest and the coed hot shot event.The Cager Classic has featured more than 480 players and awarded more than $30,000 in scholarships during its history.
Andy Pawlowicz, Dawn Patsy, Ray Rumbaugh and Nick Bole were among first-place winners recently as the Butler Archers hosted the Northwest Regional.Pawlowicz scored 580 in freestyle AA and 574 in bowhunter freestyle ASA. Patsy scored 576 in women's bowhunter unlimited AA, Rumbaugh scored 583 in intermediate bowhunter unlimited AA,and Bole scored 561 in intermediate bowhunter unlimited A.Second-place finishers were Aaron Hildebrand in men's unlimited AA and men's bowhunter unlimited AA, Patsy in women's unlimited AA and Bole in intermediate unlimited AA.The Butler Archers will take 11 shooters to the Pennsylvania State Archery Association indoor shoot March 31 in Harrisburg.
