Longtime North Hills assistant coach and Butler graduate Jeff McAnallen is expected to be approved as the Golden Tornado head football coach at tonight's Butler school board meeting.

McAnallen has been a defensive line coach at North Hills for 11 years.

Freeport's Bauman in NCAA tourney

Freeport graduate David Bauman, a 6-foot-2 junior guard for the University of Albany, will make his second consecutive trip to the NCAAMen's Basketball Tournament this year.

The Great Danes (23-9), who defeated Vermont 60-59 on Saturday to capture the America East Conference, are a No. 13 seed and will face Virginia (20-10) on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.

Bauman has seen action in seven games this season.

Two of the four remaining Butler County area teams still alive in the PIAA basketball championships will not have far to travel as the second round begins on Tuesday.• Grove City (24-4) will face Ambridge (20-8) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Butler High School in Class AAA boys action.• Union (27-3) will face Mt. Alvernia (20-7) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Knoch High School in a Class A girls matchup.• Karns City (22-5) will square off against Girard (22-6) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Meadville High School in a Class AA girls contest.Tickets will be available at the Karns City High School office Monday and Tuesday during school hours. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for students. All tickets will be $6 at the gate.• In Class AAA girls, Slippery Rock (19-9) will face District 6 champion Lewistown (18-9) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg.Games in Butler County include:• At Knoch on Tuesday, Greensburg Central Catholic-Lakeview girls will play in a Class AA game at 6 p.m. and Saltsburg-Kennedy Catholic Class A boys will play at 7:30 p.m.• Butler High School will also host the Bishop McCort-Villa Maria Class AA girls game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.• Slippery Rock University's Morrow Field House will host a Class A boys doubleheader Tuesday — DuBois Central Catholic-Western Beaver at 6 p.m. and Clairton-Keystone at 7:30 p.m.On Wednesday, SRU will host the Moon-Erie Cathedral Prep Quad A boys contest at 7:30 p.m.

After a two-week layoff, Freeport (15-3-2) will face Westmont-Hilltop (10-9) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a PIHLClass A hockey playoff game at the Belmont Complex.The winner will face Mars (15-5-2) in the second round March 19.Seneca Valley (13-9) will face Bethel Park at the Bethel Park Bladerunners at 7 p.m. Thursday in a Class AAA quarterfinal game.

Butler High School seniors Joe Titler and Randy Craig will continue their academic and football careers at St. Vincent College and Clarion University, respectively.Titler will play at outside linebacker and long snapper while Craig is an offensive lineman.
