Due to the sub-zero temperatures, Monday's girls basketball games pitting Seneca Valley at Shaler, Slippery Rock at Grove City, Hampton at Knoch, Greensburg Central at Freeport and Mars at Kittanning were postponed.

The Hampton at Knoch game has been moved to Wednesday. The Freeport contest has been re-scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, and the boys team, scheduled to play today, will follow at 6 p.m.

Also, the Mars-Sewickley Academy PIHL hockey game at the Island Sports Center was canceled.

PITTSBURGH — Serguey Linares, a former pitcher in Cuba's national league, agreed Monday to a minor-league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates and was invited to spring training.The 23-year-old right-hander is the second former Cuban professional pitcher to sign with the Pirates, joining Yoslan Herrera. Linares had a career record of 7-20 with a 5.59 ERA in 37 games in his Cuban pro career.The 6-foot-4 Linares has an excellent fastball but has had control problems.
