Norma Ross Todd

Norma Ross Todd, 86, of Donora, Washington County, died Saturday at Sunnyview Home.

Born in Butler, Oct. 3. 1920, she a daughter of William Bryson and Doris Mae Ferguson Ross. She was a descendent of James B. Ross, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and Betsy Ross, who made the first American Flag.

She was a graduate of Butler High School and a student of Penn State University, Donora Campus and Yale University in New Haven, Conn.

Mrs. Todd had been the city editor for the Donora Herald American, the associate editor and the city editor for the Daily Herald of Donora and Monongahela and a service representative for the Pittsburgh Teleservice Center for the Social Security Administration.

Her activities included the Mayor's Advisory Council and Citizens Advisory Council of Donora; member and president of the Donora Board of Education; member of the Donora Borough Council; curator of the Donora Historical Society; board of directors and secretary of the Washington County Tourism Agency; board of directors, secretary and honorary life member of the Washington County History and Landmarks Foundation; board of directors of the Mon Valley YMCA, Mon Valley Council Camp Fire Girls and Mon Valley Drug and Alcoholism Council; platinum member of the Presidential Task Force; committee representative of the Senator Inner Circle; member and secretary of the Member Service Corps Retired Executives; member and treasurer of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mon Valley Chapter; former treasurer and worthy matron, Order of the Eastern Star 108, Monongahela; board of directors of the Western Pennsylvania Eastern Star Home; advisory board of the Masonic Eastern Star Home-West; treasurer and high priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; and royal matron, district representative and grand representative of the Order of the Amaranth.

She was well known for her poetry, which was widely published. She was a member the World Poetry Society, International Poets Academy, Famous Poets Society U.S. Poets and a former president of Washington County Poetry Society

Mrs. Todd was the recipient of the U.S. Representative Senatorial Medal of Freedom; Congressional Order of Merit; Certificate of Recognition U.S. Justice Foundation and certificate of appreciation Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.

She was a member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church in Donora.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alden F. Miller Jr; her second husband, Jack R. Todd; and two brothers, James B. and Francis A. Ross.

Surviving are a son, Alden F. Miller III and his wife, Kathleen, of Port Orange, Fla.; two grandsons, Michael A. Miller and his wife, Eileen, of Thousand Oaks Calif., and Alden J. Miller and his wife, Lisabeth, of Portland, Ore.; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews Jean Ross Sacco of Coatesville, Judy Ross Gilliland of Butler, William Ross of Coco Beach Fla. and Richard Ross of Scotsdale, Ariz.

She also is survived by three stepdaughters, Patty Phillips and her husband, Stacey, and Janet Weeks, all of Donora, and Margaret Finley of Texas; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and other nieces and nephews, Norma Jean Martinkovich (Richard), George A Stephenson (Norene), William F. Stephenson (Cindy), Sue E Manuel (Tom), Rebecca Miller and Jean McKivigan, all of Butler.

<B>TODD</B> — Friends of Norma Ross Todd, who died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, will be received from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at <B>James A. Rabe Funeral Home</B>, 701 Thompson Ave., Donora. A funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Bailey officiating.DAR services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.The OES will hold a service at 6:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Memorial donations may be made to the Rally for a Cure, (breast cancer) 20 W.
