Crops experts coming

The annual Butler County Crops Day will be conducted on Feb. 14 at the East Butler Fire Hall in East Butler. Registration and viewing of commercial exhibits will begin at 9 a.m. The program will get under way at 9:30 a.m. and will adjourn at 2:30 p.m.

This year's program will feature Dr. Dwight Lingenfelter and Dr. Sjoerd Duiker, Penn State University Agronomists.

Dr. Lingenfelter will present "Herbicide Update and Weed Management Tactics" and a "Herbicide Selection and the Agronomy Guide."

Dr. Duiker's presentations will focus on "Transitioning to No-Till" and "Opportunities for Cover Crops."

Kevin Fry, Penn State Extension Agronomy Educator will discuss "Field Sprayer Safety Kit" and Lee Miller, Beaver County Extension Director, will speak to attendees about "Pesticide Recordkeeping."

Pending final approval from the state Department of Agriculture, the meeting will qualify for two update credits for core and two update credits for Category 01 (Agronomy) for those with a pesticide applicator's license.

The cost of the meeting is $10 per person, which includes lunch. A copy of the program and registration form is available by contacting the Butler County Extension Office at 724-287-4761. Registration deadline is Feb. 5.
