SRU nets women's victory
Freshman guard Nikki Presto scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team to a 60-55 victory over Cheyney Sunday.
The win was SRU's fourth in seven games to move the squad to 5-7. The win also moved coach Laurel Heilman sole possession of second place on the SRU career wins list (82) behind Dr. Anne Griffiths (111, 1970-79).
Sophomore Chere Marshall added nine points for The Rock and sophomore Jessica Schake chipped in with 11 rebounds.
SRU will open PSAC-West action Wednesday against visiting Lock Haven.
Joseph Vines had team highs of 14 points and seven rebounds, but The Rock fell to host Cheyney 70-50 Sunday.The Rock (3-10) has dropped four consecutive contests and will begin PSAC-West play Wednesday at home against Lock Haven.Cheyney opened up a 36-22 lead at the half and cruised to the win. Erroll Robinson and Troy Yonkers each had five rebounds for SRU.
