NEW YORK — Lorena Ochoa swept all the major honors on the LPGA Tour and picked up another award at the end of the season with a landslide victory as the AP Female Athlete of the Year.

She received 220 points in voting from sports editors around the country, double the point total of French tennis player Amelie Mauresmo, who captured Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Maria Sharapova, who won the U.S. Open in tennis, and Lisa Leslie, who won her third MVP award in the WNBA, tied for third with 60 points. Rounding out the top five were French Open champion Justin Henin-Hardenne and Hannah Teter, a snowboarding gold medalist at the Turin Olympics.

ADAMS TWP — The Jeff Danner Memorial Scholarship Alumni Basketball Games take place Friday at Mars High School.This marks the 22nd year for the annual fundraiser that supports Mars boys and girls basketball. Men's and women's alumni games will be played and a 3-point shooting contest is open to the public.The scholarship honors the life of Jeff Danner, a former Mars basketball player diagnosed with leukemia his senior year. He died two years later. Since the scholarship was established, 53 student-athletes have received more than $30,000 to help offset college expenses.The first game tips off at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $4 for adults, $2 for students and will be available at the door.

NEW YORK — Arizona Tuesday confirmed its talks with the New York Yankees about pitcher Randy Johnson, who won four Cy Young Awards with the Diamondbacks from 1999-2004, but thus far the Yankees' asking price has been too high.The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants also have talked with New York about Johnson, a baseball official who had been briefed on the talks said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no deal had been agree
