Longtime Miami defensive coordinator Randy Shannon will replace the fired Larry Coker as coach of the Hurricanes, The Miami Herald reported on its Web site.The newspaper, citing an unidentified source, said Shannon accepted the job and that his hiring would be officially announced by the university Friday.
ORLANDO, Fla. — Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn won the Maxwell Award as college football's top player, beating out Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith of Ohio State.Smith did win the Walter Camp player of the year award and the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's top quarterback.Darren McFadden of Arkansas, another Heisman Trophy finalist, won the Doak Walker Award for top running back.
