While the Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Cleveland Browns Thursday at Heinz Field, Pittsburgh boxers will do the same for their counterparts from the city on the lake tonight.
Two Butler Cubs boxers, 9-year-old twins, Justin and Jimmy Emrick of Butler, will take part in the event. They will fight 9-year-olds from Cleveland.
Bouts will take place on the third level of Heinz Field. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bouts begin at 7:30.
The Butler Catholic seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball team improved to 12-0 in tournament play by winning the Butler Catholic Tip Off Tournament.Victories came over St. Gregory, Holy Sepulcher, St. Louise and St. Alphonsus. Bobby Swartwout from Butler Catholic and Andy Andrle from St. Alphonsus were named tournament MVPs.Other Butler Catholic team members include John Barkus, Vinny Schmidt, Sam Cleary, Billy Smith, Corbin Seezox, Joey Friel, Michael Connelly, Josh Dymun, Philip Kletzli, Michael Schneck and Joe Holefelder.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University freshman guard Nikki Presto has been named PSACWest Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.Presto averaged 10.1 points per game in three games last week and sank four 3-pointers. She added 10 assists and four steals.SRU(2-4) travels to Pitt-Johnstown Friday.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University freshman Jennifer Harpp was named PSACWomen's Cross Country Rookie of the Year Tuesday.Harpp finished fifth in the PSACmeet, fourth in the East Region meet and earned a berth in the NCAADivision IInational meet, where she finished 87th out of 187 runners.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Cynthia Johnson and Nathan Walters have joined the Slippery Rock University coaching staff.Johnston, who coached the Seneca Valley Swim Club from 2002-04, will serve as a part-time assistant women's water polo coach. Walters will be a part-time assistant women's swimming coach.
