Mary Zacherl of Clinton Township won the Bullshipper Award Nov. 13 during the annual Farm-City Banquet held at Butler County Community College.

The annual event, sponsored by the Butler Rotary Club, the Butler County Conservation District and the Penn State Cooperative Extension, honors those individuals and farms that make a difference in Butler County.

Zacherl received her award for the various committees she has worked on, including Smart Agriculture, the annual farm tour and for being a board member of the Butler County Conservation District.

The Farmer Cooperator of the Year award went to Donald and David Thompson, whose farm is located in Buffalo and Clinton townships. The Thompsons own 250 acres, where they raise beef and goats and grow crops.

The Conservation Educator award went to David Andrews, a teacher in the Butler School District. Andrews is the adviser to the high school's trout fishing club and has coordinated stream improvements for Connoquenessing Creek.

Andrews also serves on the Connoquenessing Watershed Alliance and volunteers with the state Fish and Boat Commission.

The Forester of the Year award went to Robert Carlberg who, with his wife Jennifer, own a forestry consulting firm. Through the firm, Carlberg has provided assistance with workshops provided by the Conservation District and the Bureau of Forestry.

In addition to the evening's award winners, Butler County Commissioner James Kennedy thanked Armstrong Farm, Goldscheitter Farms and the Simply Sweet Onion farm for taking part in the annual farm tour in early October.

Karen Diehl, president of the Butler Rotary, was master of ceremonies. Jack Cohen, director of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, spoke about what local brands were available for purchase.
