SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's women's soccer team is in the NCAADivision IIplayoffs for the third time in school history.

The Rock (12-6-1) earned the fourth seed in the Northeast Regional and will play top-seeded and tournament host West Chester (20-0) Friday.

Indiana (Pa.) (14-6) plays New Haven (12-4-4) in the other semifinal. The region final will be played Sunday. SRUhas made four straight trips to the PSACTournament, winning league titles in 2003 and 2005.

Karns City's girls soccer team (17-3-1) will face top-seeded Elk County Catholic (19-1-1) for the District 9 Class AAchampionship at 6 p.m. Thursday at Clarion University.The Gremlins are going after their ninth successive district title.

The Butler High football team (3-6) will host Erie Cathedral Prep (8-1) in the Golden Tornado's final game of the season at 7 p.m. Friday at Art Bernardi Stadium.Unable to find an opponent, Seneca Valley will not be playing a 10th game this season.
