Butler HighSchool graduate Annie Lowry scored three goals for the James Madison University women's soccer team, leading the Dukes to a 3-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth Friday night.
It was the first hat trick of Lowry's career at JMU and the school's first hat trick since the 2000 season.
"Annie Lowry stepped her game up tonight," said JMU coach Dave Lombardo on the school's Web site. "It was a great team effort, but she really stood out as an exceptional player."
Lowry's performance was the 14th hat trick in school history.
WASHINGTON — Red Auerbach, the Hall of Famer who guided the Boston Celtics to 16 championships — first as a coach and later as general manager — died Saturday. He was 89.Auerbach's death was announced by the Celtics, who still employed him as team president.Auerbach died of a heart attack near his home in Washington, according to an NBA official, who didn't want to be identified. His last public appearance was on Wednesday, when he received the Navy's Lone Sailor Award during a ceremony in the nation's capital.Auerbach's 938 victories made him the winningest coach in NBA history until Lenny Wilkens overtook him during the 1994-95 season.
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick was found dead in a church courtyard Saturday with chop wounds to his head in a suspected homicide.Berbick's body was discovered about 6:30 a.m. in his hometown parish of Portland, constable Beverly Howell said. The former fighter, believed to be 52, was pronounced dead by a doctor in the church courtyard.
