PIRATES NOTES AND NUMBERS
• The team's home attendance total was 1,861,549, fifth-highest in franchise history and second-highest at PNCPark.
• The Pirates were 30-60 before the All-Star break, 37-35 after. The winning record since the All-Star Game marks the club's first since 1992.
• The Pirates' defense played 88 errorless games this season, breaking the club record of 86 set in 1983.
• Center fielder Chris Duffy led the major leagues with a .963 stolen base percentage and stole 24 of his 26 bases after Aug. 1.
• Jason Bay became the Pirates' first right-handed hitter to belt 35 home runs in a season since Dick Stuart did it in 1961.
• The Pirates were 43-38 at PNCPark, marking their first winning season in that facility.
• Catcher Ronny Paulino batted .310 and made 124 appearances behind the plate. The last rookie to bat .310 or better while catching at least 100 games was Mike Piazza in 1993.
• Freddy Sanchez won the NLbatting title with a .344 average and led the league with 53 doubles.
• Matt Capps led all rookie pitchers with 85 appearances.
• Salomon Torres made 94 appearances out of the bullpen, tying Kent Tekulve's club record. Only Mike Marshall (106 appearances with the Dodgers in 1974) has ever pitched in more games in a single season.
• The Pirates were 8-23 in one-run games before the All-Star Game, 15-8 in one-run games after.
• The Pirates were 46-44 when their starting pitcher worked at least six innings, 21-51 otherwise
