Anastasia Urbanik had 20 kills, nine blocks and eight digs as the Slippery Rock University volleyball team upset nationally ranked California (Pa.) University 30-28, 28-30, 30-24, 30-28 at Morrow Field House over the weekend.

Katie Greco added 14 kills and three blocks and Jen Blasko and Louise Schultz each added 10 kills for The Rock (11-3, 1-1).

Grove City HighSchool graduate Gwen Oberlin had 20 digs for SRU.

Women's soccer

Mallory Neubert scored the only goal of the contest for Slippery Rock University in a 2-1 loss to West Chester.

Neubert's goal tied the score at 1 in the 40th minute of action. WestChester scored the winning goal in the 70th minute.

Rock keeper Lauren McManus had 11 saves as West Chester outshot SRU 13-3.

Men's soccer

Bridgeport scored in the 101st minute to hand Slippery Rock University a 2-1, double-overtime defeat Saturday.

Justin Riggle scored the only goal for The Rock (5-3).

SRU keeper Chris Cooks had four saves in his first start of the season.

Women's tennis

Kayla Blackburn won her No. 1 singles and her No. 1 doubles matches Sunday as The Rock split with East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg.

The Rock blanked East Stroudsburg 9-0, but fell to Bloomsburg 7-2.

Field hockey

Slippery Rock suffered its fourth straight loss — all to teams ranked in the top 10 — Sunday when second-ranked Shippensburg blanked it 8-0.

Shippensburg outshot The Rock 44-3.

Tara Bailey recorded 19 saves for SRU.

Football

Thomas More College quarterback Trevor Stellman hit receiver Chase Weber on a 16-yard scoring strike with 2:21 remaining to sink Grove CityCollege 21-20 Saturday.

The Wolverines (0-2) trailed 14-0 in the first quarter, but rallied to take a 20-14 lead with 12:22 left in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Stephen Mercer caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Andrew DiDonato in the first quarter for Grove City's first points of the season. The Wolverines were shut out 28-0 in the opener.

Mercer also scored on a 6-yard run to tie the score at 14 after throwing the game-tying two-point conversion pass.

DiDonato put Grove City on top with a 6-yard scoring run. Thomas More, however, blocked the extra point.

Matt Weil finished the game with 56 yards on 21 carries for Grove City. DiDonato was 15-of-24 passing for 188 yards and Mercer, who was in competition withDiDonato in camp for the starting quarterback role, caught five passes for 71 yards and a score.
