PITTSBURGH — Tyler Palko had a rough day at practice, and he let it show.

Things didn't go well for Palko, Pitt's fifth-year senior quarterback, on Thursday. The Panthers' offense was not running efficiently. Palko was picked off a couple of times, and he became frustrated.

That's OK, according to Panthers offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh, but when it affects Palko's teammates, the QB has to change his ways.

"There's going to be some situations in a game when things don't work out for us, but when he starts pouting and getting frustrated the 10 other guys out there are going to react like he does," Cavanaugh said.

"So, we talked about it. He made some strides in the spring, so I'm disappointed that he reacted that way today. He's the leader of this offense, and he's going to have bad days. But how he reacts out there is going to reflect on the rest of the guys out there."

Cavanaugh said Palko should know not to let his teammates see his frustration.

"The rest of the practice went (downhill) after that," Cavanaugh said.

Head coach Dave Wannstedt took responsibility for the whole situation.

"That's where I need to do a better job, and Matt Cavanaugh and I talked about it," Wannstedt said.

"We always have to remember that Tyler's in the huddle here, and you've got (freshman) T.J. Porter there and maybe (freshman) Kevin Collier in the backfield.

"We have to constantly remind ourselves who's in the huddle and we have to do a balancing act," Wannstedt said.
