Cody West, Dalton Koebler and Colin McKee each belted a home run to power Butler Township to a 5-0 victory over Indiana (Pa.) in the Section 2 (ages 11 and 12) Little League playoffs in Saegertown Monday.
Matthew Baranchak pitched a complete-game one-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks over five innings.
Chris Cotton added a double, and Koebler and Michael Connelly each added a single for Butler Township.
Derek Shields had a second-inning single to account for Indiana's lone hit.
Butler Township will play Titusville at 6 p.m. today at Saegertown.
• In a District 25 Little League (ages 9 and 10) playoff game, Cory Wheeler allowed two hits, struck out six and walked one to lead host Butler Township in a 12-2, four-inning victory over Clarion Monday.
Adam Schaffner had two singles, while Wheeler and Ryan Denny each added a double. Jacob Lenhart, Luke Baranchak, Michael Mikula and Clint Regal each added a single.
Next up, Butler Township will face Franklin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at a site to be determined.
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Butler girls varsity volleyball team placed first at the Slippery Rock University team camp last weekend.Members of the team included Amy Achesinski, Yuki Schaper, Ashley Grenet, Samantha Harris, Katie Willison, Becky Smith, Stephanie Mock and Rachel Doutt. Meghan Lucas coached the squad.Butler's junior varsity also placed first in its division. Coaches were Kelly Erdos and Sandy Augustine while players included Caitlin Cress, Kelly Huth, Abbie Druschel, Marina Gracik, Lyndsy Wittebort, Jesse Coyle, Cortney Hazlett, Brynn Maxwell, Jocelyn Bachman, Shayne Lantz and Danielle Lloyd.
Seneca Valley and Farrell were crowned champions of the first Slippery Rock High School Summer Basketball League recently.Seneca Valley won the junior high division with a 65-55 win over Mohawk. Greenville, Lakeview, Mars and Slippery Rock also competed in that division.Farrell defeated Slippery Rock 57-47 to win the senior high division. A-CValley, Ellwood City, Greenville, Karns City, Lakeview, Mars, Mohawk, Moniteau, Rocky Grove and Union-Rimersburg also competed.

Mark Myers, signed by the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger Cats Thursday, kicked a game-winning 44-yard field goal in the closing seconds against Calgary Friday night.Myers is the grandson of Ernie and Dorothy Myers of Portersville, the nephew of Sue Hagerty of Saxonburg and Mindy Daugherty of Portersville, and the son of Slippery Rock High School graduates Richard and Marla Myers.Hamilton (1-4) defeated Calgary, 20-17.
Brian Routhieaux and Ryan Prokay won their respective divisions at the Keystone Public Golf Association P.J. Boatwright Junior Golf Qualifier Monday at Green Meadows.Routhieaux, a senior at Mars High School, won the Division B (ages 15 to 17) event by carding a par 72, four strokes better than the three-way tie for second place.Prokay, of Grove City fired a 76 to win the Division C (age 14) by six strokes.
Butler's Brian Minto, 25-1 with 14 knockouts as a professional heavyweight boxer, will put on a four-round sparring exhibition from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Clearview Mall.Minto will also be signing autographs and having pictures taken during that time. T-shirts will also be available.Minto's next fight is Aug. 11 at Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort against Andy Sanple (34-13-2). The six-round bout will take place after an ESPN"Friday Night at the Fights" telecast concludes from the site.Minto's fight is not scheduled to be televised.
