The Mars Area All-Stars, an 8-and-under girls softball team in its first year of existence, placed third at the McCandless Athletic Association Girls Slow-Pitch Tournament over the weekend.

The squad, sponsored by Vivirito's Salon & Cafe, lost to Hampton in the first game Saturday, but bounced back with wins against Scott Township Saturday and Hampton on Sunday to knock both teams out, but then lost to Middle Road.

Team members are Arianne Bazzy, Hope Berneburg, Hunter Berneburg, Bailey Campbell, Cheyanne Eichenauer, Hannah Eichenauer, Olivia Henry, Jayme Hibbard, Emma Lowry, Elizabeth Matusik, Bridget Merten, Serena Morreale and Suzanne Papik.

Campbell, Hibbard, Lowry and Morreale were game MVPs. Joe Vivirito is the team's manager and Rich Merten and Jim Hibbard are the coaches.

TORONTO — A.J. Allmendinger, the only American driver in the Champ Car World Series, won Sunday's Molson Grand Prix of Toronto for his third victory in a row, the first U.S.-born driver to accomplish that feat since Al Unser Jr. in 1994.

LEMONT, Ill. — Trevor Immelman birdied the 18th hole and held off Tiger Woods and Matthew Goggin to win the Western Open on Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory.Immelman needed to par the 18th to win. Instead, he knocked in a 32-foot putt for a birdie, putting him at 13-under 271 for the tournament — two strokes ahead of Woods and Goggin.

GLADSTONE, N.J. — Brittany Lincicome won the HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship for her first LPGA Tour victory, beating Juli Inkster 3 and 2 in the final after edging Lorena Ochoa on the first extra hole in the morning semifinals.The 20-year-old Lincicome was a 4-and-3 winner over Michelle Wie in the quarterfinals.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland All-Star forward LeBron James accepted a five-year contract extension worth about $80 million from the Cavaliers on Saturday.James will sign the deal once the league's moratorium ends Wednesday, his agent said.
