Will Nesbitt, 11, of Center Township won the district title for 14-year-olds at the Lakevue Tennis Tournament last weekend.

Nesbitt beat Nicholas Navarine 6-0, 6-1 in the first round; Jesse Scheirer 6-2, 6-4 in the second round; Michael Matthews 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals and Joel Lankford 6-1, 6-1 in the finals.

Ron Henry and Tom Fry of the Butler County Bowling Association are in second place, nine pins out of first, at the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association tournament, which ends Sunday.The pair rolled a score of 1,471 in the Scratch Doubles event.Fry also is in ninth place in the Singles Scratch event with a score of 757, 33 pins off the pace set by Roger Horst of Harrisburg.Also, Jeff Blank of the BCBA is fifth in the All Events Scratch division with a 2,169, 28 pins of the pace, and the BCBA team of Michael Cushner and Scott Davidson are fifth in Handicapped Doubles with a score of 1,530, 62 pins out of the lead.

BUFFALO TWP — The All-Star Sprint Show and the mid-Atlantic Championship Series Late Model event were postponed at Lernerville Speedway Friday night because of rain.The Sprint event will not be made up due to a scheduling conflict.The MACS Late Model show has been rescheduled for Sept. 1.The track will host Family Fun Night on Tuesday, featuring school bus races, Shade tree Speedway quads and a demolition derby.

POTOMAC, Md. — Ben Curtis made a 5-foot birdie putt on his final hole Friday, giving him a one-stroke edge over Jose Coceres at the Booz Allen Classic.Curtis followed his first-round 62 with a 65 at the TPC at Avenel, putting him at 15-under-par and setting a tournament record for best score after 36 holes.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Florida Panthers acquired forward Todd Bertuzzi Friday in exchange for goaltender Roberto Luongo as part of a five-player trade with the Vancouver Canucks.
