SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University will host a VIPSports Camp June 14 to 17, giving children ages 5 to 18 with visual impairment the chance to try track and field, horseback riding, swimming, taekwondo, rock climbing and tandem biking.
Twenty-five SRUstudents will run the camp. Camp participants will stay in SRU's Harner Hall and will participate in sporting activities from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
GROVE CITY — Grove City College senior right-handed pitcher Erik Arnesen was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday.The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Arnesen went 9-0 for Grove City this spring, posting a 2.92 earned run average and recording 84 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched.He set Wolverine single-season records for wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. Arnesen helped Grove City to a school-record 26 victories this season.
SRU basketball adds 4 recruitsSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University men's basketball has added four recruits, interim coach Jamal Palmer has announced.Two are transfers from Allegany (Md.)College in 6-foot-7 forward Orlando Harris and 6-2 guard Kenny Smith.The other two are from the Catholic League in Philadelphia:6-9 center Brian Campuzano of Monsignor Bonner High School and 6-6 forward Lonnie Perry of league champion Roman Catholic High School.Palmer is a native of Philadelphia
Butler County Bowling Association members Tom Fry and Ron Henry have slipped to second in the doubles scratch division of the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association Tournament with three weekends remaining.Fry and Henry combined for a 1,471-series, nine pins behind Paul Guse and Jack Kurent of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Bowling Association.Michael Kushner and Scott Davidson of the BCBAare third in doubles handicapped, Fry is eighth in scratch singles and Jeff Blank is fourth in all-events, scratch.
