SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women's track and field coach John Papa was named Coach of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.In his 19th season, Papa guided The Rock to its third PSACtitle in four years. SRU's Jennifer Hansen was named Women's Freshman of the Year for winning the conference title and placing fourth nationally in the pole vault.The Rock's Jeff Weiss was named Men's Freshman of the Year for winning the 5K and 10Kat the PSACmeet and earning All-America honors in the 10K.
HERMITAGE — Ron Shirey of Sarver helped lead his team to victory at the annual Knoulish Golf Tournament held Saturday at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course.Shirey and teammates Rick Moran, Tim Moran and Bud Noullet combined to shoot a 71, beating the runner-up team by three strokes.
SAN FRANCISCO — Federal investigators searched Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Jason Grimsley's house Tuesday as part of their investigation of steroid use in baseball.Thirteen agents searched Grimsley's house in Scottsdale, Ariz., for six hours, according to Internal Revenue Service Agent Mark Lessler, who would not say what they found.
