SAXONBURG — The borough's younger residents will launch the 2006 Saxonburg Blooms Contest.

Children will plant petunias during Blooms and Bubbles from 1 to 3 p.m. June 14 at Roebling Park. Lemonade, cookies and bubble blowing will be part of the free event.

The date also marks planting day for the Blooms Contest in which Main Street residents and businesses compete for best outdoor floral decorations. Residents and businesses on side streets also are eligible if they are one block on either side of Main Street.

Contestants can plant on the curbside, in containers, in window boxes, front yards or on doors. Judging for the contest will be on July 21 and 22 by members of the Herbal Thymes Club. Awards will be presented on July 24.

A yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. also will be part of the weekend's Bloomin' Days on July 21 and 22.
